Monica Smith has more than 30 years of experience dedicated to student achievement, instructional excellence, and positive school culture. A proud graduate of Prairie View A&M University, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science and later obtained a Master of Science in School Counseling from Amberton University. Her educational journey reflects a lifelong commitment to learning, leadership, and service.

Ms. Smith began her career in education in 1994 as a mathematics teacher at David W. Carter High School, the very campus from which she graduated as Salutatorian in 1990. Returning to serve the school and community that helped shape her life was both meaningful and purposeful, laying the foundation for a career centered on giving back and empowering future generations.

Throughout her distinguished career, Ms. Smith has served in a variety of impactful leadership roles including mathematics teacher, counselor, dean of students, assistant principal, associate principal, director of data governance, principal, and assistant principal.

Her work has consistently focused on creating systems that ensure all students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally while equipping educators with the tools needed for excellence.

On a personal note, Ms. Smith is the proud mother of two beautiful adult children, Roderick and Raeven, who have both followed careers in education and leadership. In July 2026, she will proudly gain a daughter-in-love, adding another blessing to her growing family. She is also the loving owner of Anabel, her cherished eight-year-old English Bulldog who holds a special place in her heart.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Ms. Smith enjoys spending quality time with family, dancing of all kinds, working out, traveling, reading, and embracing opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Her passion for education, servant leadership, and community impact continues to inspire students, staff, and families alike
