Grand Prairie ISD Advanced Academics Program is committed to ensuring that our highest ability learners are challenged to meet their potential by providing appropriate curriculum and equitable learning opportunities that meet their social and emotional needs, interests, and areas of strength, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religious, age, sexual orientation, class, and disability disparities.
At Florence Hill Elementary, students can be referred to the Gifted & Talented program at any time from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students are identified for this program using both Cognitive Abilities testing & Standardized Achievement testing. Once identified, students receive pull out services 4 times each week.
The curriculum is specifically designed to meet the needs of these special students. The small class size allows students to have unique learning opportunities created for their interests & advanced abilities. Our curriculum units are based on broad themes & incorporate logical, creative, and critical thinking skills across all the academic subject areas.
Broncos that receive Gifted & Talented services have many opportunities to go beyond the traditional classroom. We use real world & hands on learning that encourages students to ask questions & enables them to find the answers. Gifted scholars also attend field trips throughout the year to extend their classroom experiences.
